About Schwartz & von Halen

Who are we?

Born in Berlin – Designed in Amsterdam

Schwartz & von Halen was founded in 2013 by two passionate fashion enthusiasts, with its roots in Berlin. We have made it our personal mission to provide Dutch men and women with fashionable, stylish, and rugged winter gloves during the cold days.

Now, 11 years later, we deliver beautiful handmade gloves throughout Europe and have already helped more than 140,000 customers find their perfect pair of gloves.

The Schwartz & von Halen gloves are designed in collaboration with fashion designers from Amsterdam. Our glove collection is defined by a keen eye for detail, style, and durability. The handmade men’s and women’s gloves are crafted from the finest and highest-quality leathers, such as deer, cow, sheep, and goat leather.

In addition, all gloves are lined with warm and soft materials, including cashmere, wool, sheepskin, lambswool, and ultra-warm fleece.

Besides the United States, Schwartz & von Halen is also active in Belgium, Germany, Austria, England, France, and the Netherlands.

Are your gloves also available in stores?

With our glove brand Schwartz & von Halen, we have opted for an online strategy. This means that our gloves are only available online.

In which countries is Schwartz & von Halen active?

Besides the United States, Schwartz & von Halen is also active in Belgium, Germany, Austria, England, France, and the Netherlands.

Fair, sustainable, handmade leather gloves

In addition to the high quality of our gloves, we believe it is important that Schwartz & von Halen gloves are produced in a fair, responsible, and sustainable way. The gloves are carefully designed and then handmade. With proper use and the right care (leather balm and cotton pouch), our gloves will last for many years.

Purchasing a pair of Schwartz & von Halen gloves is therefore an investment in a beautiful product that you will enjoy for a long time.

To ensure both the quality of our products and the way they are made, we carry out annual inspections based on the following criteria. We can therefore state with complete confidence that:

  1. All factories where our products are made are inspected by independent parties to ensure safe working conditions and compliance with international safety standards.
  2. Our workers who make the gloves receive fair wages and are able to perform their work safely.
  3. The leather hides and linings used to make our gloves come exclusively from animals that are fully consumed, ensuring that no waste occurs.

Product questions

How do I use the leather gel?

The big advantage of our leather and suede gloves compared to, for example, wool gloves is that all Schwartz & von Halen leather gloves are completely wind- and waterproof. To make your leather gloves even more resistant to rainy and cold weather, we recommend treating them with our leather gel (unfortunately not suitable for suede or fabric gloves). The leather gel is included for free with every pair of gloves.

When should I use the leather gel?

You can use the leather gel as soon as you receive it, or you can apply it after the winter season.

  • To make your gloves extra water-repellent, you can apply the leather gel immediately upon receiving your gloves. If you happen to cycle through a heavy rain shower, your gloves will be more water-resistant thanks to the gel.
  • You can also use the leather gel at the end of the winter season to nourish the leather and restore its shine.

How do I use the leather gel?

Apply the leather gel with a cloth, making small circular motions on the leather. Afterward, let the leather gloves dry thoroughly. Once the leather gel has been fully absorbed, you’ll notice that the leather feels supple again, has regained its original shine, and is even more water-repellent.

By properly treating your leather gloves, you’ll ensure that your hands stay warm and dry during cold weather.

Which glove size do I have?

Here you can find all the information about finding the right glove size.

Can I use the leather gel on suede or fabric gloves?

Unfortunately, the leather gel cannot be used on suede or fabric gloves. You can think of the leather gel as a type of shoe polish. If you use this gel on suede gloves, it will cause stains that cannot be removed. The same applies to fabric gloves — the gel can also leave stains.

If you’d like to protect your suede gloves against winter weather (which we completely understand!), we recommend using a water- and dirt-repellent impregnation spray (available at most shoe stores).

Can I also buy the leather gel separately?

Yes, you can find it here.

My leather gloves feel stiff — will this change?

Leather is a natural material, and it’s very common for your gloves to feel stiff or rigid at first (this is especially true for the Hunter, David, Alessandra, and Chelsea models). As you wear your gloves, the leather will become more supple and gradually mold to the shape of your hands — that’s the beauty of leather.

If you happen to get caught in heavy rain and your gloves become soaked, please don’t place them on a heater — this will make the leather very stiff and hard. Instead, let them dry in a sheltered spot, and if the leather becomes a bit stiff afterward, it definitely helps to apply another layer of leather gel.

There is an imperfection in the leather of my gloves.

Please note that leather is a natural product, and every piece of hide — and therefore every leather glove — is unique. Since leather is made from animal hide, all gloves have small imperfections. We do not see this as a defect but rather as a characteristic that makes each leather glove unique. No two gloves are exactly the same.

How long is the warranty on my gloves?

We offer a one (1) year warranty on all our gloves. This warranty starts from the moment you receive your gloves.

If you experience any issues with your gloves within this period, please contact our customer service at info@schwartz-vonhalen.com. Our customer service team will be happy to assist you in finding a suitable solution.

I’ve lost one of my gloves — can I buy a single glove separately?

We’re sorry to hear that you’ve lost one of your gloves!
Unfortunately, for logistical reasons, we’re unable to sell single gloves separately. However, if you contact us at info@schwartz-vonhalen.com, we’ll be happy to assist you further.

Which types of leather do you have?

At Schwartz & von Halen, quality comes first — that’s why we have personally selected the finest types of leather for our gloves. Our collection includes gloves made from different types of leather, linings, and functionalities, so you can find a pair that perfectly suits you. To give you a better understanding of the materials we use, we’ve listed the four types of leather featured in our collection, along with the corresponding glove styles.

Nappa Leather: Goat and Sheepskin

Nappa leather is named after the place where it was first discovered — Napa, California (USA), in 1875 by the German Emanuel Manasse. Nappa is a common and perhaps one of the most well-known types of leather.

The Nappa leather we use for our gloves comes from goats and sheep. Nappa is known for its softness, durability, and supple texture — making it ideal for leather gloves. Like deerskin, Nappa leather is also highly resistant to rain, snow, and cold wind.

Besides keeping your hands warm and dry, comfort is just as important. Because Nappa leather is soft and flexible (just like deerskin), it molds perfectly to your hand, offering exceptional comfort.

It’s also important that leather gloves can breathe — and Nappa leather does this exceptionally well. One of the reasons our Nappa leather gloves are so popular is their elegant, refined appearance, which makes them perfect for creating classic, timeless designs.

The longer you wear Nappa leather gloves, the more beautiful the leather becomes over time. It’s a strong and durable material that will last for years. Be sure to treat your Nappa gloves with our special leather gel to help them stay in top condition for as long as possible.

Deerskin

Deerskin has a long history and is often associated with Native Americans, who used the material for trade. Thanks to its versatility, deerskin remains a popular material today. It’s the most exclusive and expensive leather type currently featured in our collection.

Deerskin is characterized by its softness, versatility, and durability. Because it is very supple, it’s perfect for making strong yet flexible gloves. Over time, the leather becomes even softer and molds beautifully to your hands. Unlike cowhide, deerskin is very breathable, helping prevent sweaty hands.

Despite its soft and supple feel, deerskin is also extremely strong. Deerskin gloves keep your hands warm and dry during cold and wet weather. When treated with our special leather gel, they will last for many years.

Suede / Reversed Lambskin

Suede leather is a very luxurious and special type of leather. The name comes from the French phrase “Gants de Suède,” meaning “Swedish gloves.” Suede mainly comes from sheep and goats. It’s made from the inner side of the hide, whereas sheepskin and goatskin leather are made from the outer side.

Because suede gloves are made from the inner layer of the hide, they feel wonderfully soft — much like the animal’s fleece. This makes suede gloves a true pleasure to wear. Thanks to their soft texture, suede gloves are excellent at keeping your hands warm during cold winter weather.

Like deerskin and Nappa leather, suede is also breathable, allowing your hands to stay comfortable. With proper care and a little love, our suede leather gloves will last for many years.

Vegan Leather

Vegan leather (also known as faux leather) is becoming increasingly popular in the fashion industry. Although it’s not real leather, vegan leather closely resembles genuine leather in appearance.

Nevertheless, vegan leather gloves offer good water-repellent properties and keep your hands warm thanks to their soft, cozy lining.

Which linings do you offer?

When it comes to the lining of our gloves, quality is also a top priority at Schwartz & von Halen. That’s why we’ve personally selected only the finest linings — focusing on comfort and keeping your hands warm.

The linings in our gloves offer the perfect balance of softness and insulation. The softness ensures that the gloves feel pleasant to wear, even for long periods — for example, while cycling or walking. The insulating properties of the lining keep your hands warm during autumn and winter weather. In addition, the linings of our gloves are highly breathable, which is an important factor for overall comfort.

Our collection includes gloves with different types of leather, linings, and functionalities, so you can choose the pair that suits you best. As mentioned above, the lining is an essential component of every glove. Below, you’ll find an overview of the linings we use in Schwartz & von Halen gloves:

Wool & Cashmere

Many of our gloves feature a mixed lining made of 85% (knitted) sheep’s wool and 15% cashmere.

Sheep’s wool has many advantages. It’s an excellent insulator, meaning it keeps you warm in cold environments but also allows ventilation in warmer conditions. This effect comes from the natural spiral curl of wool fibers. Wearing gloves with a wool lining helps maintain your body temperature — in short: warm hands.

Wool can also absorb up to 40% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet, which is very convenient if your hands tend to sweat in gloves. Wool ensures you won’t notice it.

Furthermore, wool is a sustainable material with a long lifespan. It’s 100% biodegradable and recyclable. It’s also self-cleaning, meaning it doesn’t need to be washed — simply airing it out is enough. Wool is naturally resilient too, so you’ll never feel creases or folds in your glove lining.

To this versatile sheep’s wool, we’ve added 15% cashmere. While the wool provides warmth and breathability, the cashmere adds exceptional softness and comfort — making it an ideal combination.

We use only pure new wool (sheared wool) from healthy, living sheep for our gloves. The wool we use comes from farmers who practice ethical and sustainable methods in animal welfare, land management, and biodiversity. The sheep are sheared humanely by professional shearers, ensuring both animal well-being and product quality.

Lambswool

For several of our gloves, we’ve chosen a lambswool lining.

Lambswool has a shorter fiber structure than regular sheep’s wool, making it softer and more luxurious to the touch. You’ll notice that gloves lined with lambswool feel wonderfully soft and offer a high level of comfort. Because lambswool linings take more time to produce than wool-cashmere linings, these gloves are typically priced slightly higher on our website.

The benefits of lambswool are very similar to those of wool: it’s an excellent insulator, absorbs moisture effectively, is durable, and has the same self-cleaning qualities as wool.

Fleece

As an alternative to the above natural linings, we also offer gloves with fleece linings.

Fleece is a knitted and brushed synthetic fabric with many advantages: it’s extremely soft, lightweight, and breathable. A fleece lining doesn’t crease and feels very comfortable due to its fine fibers.

Its greatest strength lies in its insulation — fleece traps air effectively, providing excellent warmth, which is why it’s commonly used in winter sports gloves.

Since fleece is made entirely from synthetic fibers, it can be produced using recycled polyester, such as fibers from PET bottles. This makes it a sustainable and long-lasting lining option.

Fleece linings are also a great alternative for people who are allergic to wool.

Sheepskin / Lammy

A frequently used lining in our gloves is sheepskin, often referred to as lammy. This is one of the warmest linings available for gloves.

The signature feature of lammy gloves is the small wool curls on the inside. Thanks to these curls, lammy wool provides even better insulation than knitted linings.

We offer a large collection of lammy gloves for both men and women. If you’d like to see more or check which sizes and colors are currently available, feel free to contact us for more information.

Ordering and Payment options

Which payment options do I have?

To serve our customers as best as possible, we offer all common payment methods. All transactions are secure and encrypted. Your banking information is never stored, saved, or shared with third parties.

As soon as your payment is received, your order will be processed immediately, and your gloves will be shipped to you.

Here you’ll find an overview of all the payment methods we offer.

I’d like to give a pair of gloves as a gift, but I don’t know the recipient’s glove size.

How nice that you want to give a pair of Schwartz & von Halen gloves as a gift!

We completely understand that you might not know the recipient’s glove size — it’s not exactly something that comes up in everyday conversation :)

That’s why, in addition to our glove size chart, we’ve also created a shoe size comparison chart. This chart gives you a good indication of which size to choose. You can find both charts here.

If the size still isn’t quite right, we offer the option to return the order free of charge for an exchange. You can find more information about this under the section Exchanges and Returns

My measured glove size doesn’t match the indication in the shoe size chart.

In that case, we recommend sticking with your measured glove size. The shoe size chart is not 100% precise — it’s based on the average of several measurements. As with all averages, there will always be people whose size falls slightly above or below the mean.

The gloves I want are sold out / out of stock.

Every September we receive the new collection in our warehouse. Due to the great popularity of some returning models, a pair of gloves in a particular size may sell out quickly. We recommend leaving your email address on the product page so you’ll receive a message as soon as the glove is back in stock.

If you haven’t received an update about a glove for a longer period, we advise contacting our customer service, who can check whether we expect new stock of your chosen glove this season. Our customer service can be reached at info@schwartz-vonhalen.com

Can I place a Wholesale / B2B order?

If you’re interested in wholesale or B2B orders, we kindly ask you to contact us at info@schwartz-vonhalen.com. Your message will then be forwarded to the appropriate person as soon as possible.
